Talladega defeats Southern University 86-84

Dec 29, 2009 - 4:57 AM BATON ROUGE, La.(AP) -- Kerry Harvis scored 28 points to lead Talladega to an 86-84 victory over Southern University on Monday night.

Harvis also added seven steals for the NAIA Tornadoes (8-8), who snapped a two-game losing streak. Micah Hagens scored 20 points, and Patrick Rodgers added 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The game was tied at 79 with 1:37 remaining when Talladega scored five straight points to take a 84-79 lead with 44 seconds left.

Trailing by three points, Brandon White made a layup for Southern to make the score 85-84 with 8 seconds remaining. Rodgers then made 1 of 2 free throws to give the Tornadoes a two-point lead, but Southern's Jazz Williams turned the ball over with 2 seconds left. The Jaguars were unable to get a final shot off.

Williams and Nick Wall paced the Jaguars (1-10) with 13 points apiece, while Doug Scott added 11.
