Jayhawks continue amazing home streak, rout North Texas

Nov 20, 2010 - 4:25 AM Lawrence, KS (Sports Network) - Marcus Morris scored 20 points while his twin brother Markieff supplied 13 points and eight rebounds to help seventh-ranked Kansas pull away from North Texas, 93-60.

Elijiah Johnson provided 11 points off the bench and Tyshawn Taylor chipped in with nine points and six assists for the Jayhawks (3-0), who tied the school record with their 62nd straight win at Allen Fieldhouse.

Tristan Thompson scored 14 points and Dominique Johnson added 11 off the bench for the Mean Green (2-1), who were coming off wins over Henderson State and Texas Tech.

"I thought our guys played extremely hard and gave a great effort," said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. "We didn't execute as well as I would have liked to but I thought Kansas had a lot to do with it because of the way they played. I thought they were good on the defensive end of the floor and I thought they played exceptionally well in the second half."

Kansas jumped out to a 21-8 lead eight minutes into the game before North Texas shaved the lead down to 30-23 with a 4:13 remaining in the half.

The Jayhawks took a 36-27 advantage into the intermission after holding the Mean Green to 37.5 percent shooting (12-of-32) from the floor and outrebounding the visitors, 20-10.

The hosts removed any doubt, or any thought of an upset, by putting together a 20-2 surge to take a 67-35 lead with just over 11 minutes to play in the game. Johnson's dunk triggered the run and Marcus Morris' three-pointer finished it.

"I'm just staying confident and I know that I can knock down shots from anywhere," Marcus Morris said. "I can open the floor for my teammates and let the game go on. Just knowing that this is my team this year and that they are waiting for me to spark them really gets me excited."

The lead reached as many as 37 and did not dip below 25 the rest of the way as the hosts shot a blistering 20-of-29 in the second half.
