Wilson helps Murray State stay unbeaten

Dec 31, 2011 - 3:51 AM Charleston, IL (Sports Network) - Stacy Wilson scored 16 points Friday night and No. 20 Murray State remained unbeaten with a 73-40 victory over Eastern Illinois.

Jewuan Long added 14 points in the victory and the Racers (14-0, 2-0 Ohio Valley) improved on their best start to a season since the 1935-36 team went a school-record 16-0.

Jeremy Granger had 12 points and was the only scorer in double digits for reeling Eastern Illinois (6-6, 0-1). The Panthers lost their fourth game in a row and fell for the first time at home this season (5-1).

The Racers are one of just four unbeaten teams left in the country, along with No. 1 Syracuse (14-0), No. 6 Baylor (13-0) and No 8 Missouri (13-0).

They shot 52.8 percent from the floor against Eastern Illinois, including nearly 60 percent while building a 41-21 lead in the first half.

It was a one-point game about 4 1/2 minutes in before Murray State went on a 25-2 run over the next 10 minutes. Seven different players scored during the burst and five of them knocked down threes.

Wilson and Zay Jackson scored five points apiece, with Jackson's three-pointer making it 34-10 with 5:14 left in the half. The lead reached as high as 25 points before the break and climbed to 35 several times in the second half.

The Racers ended 12-for-22 from three-point range, making six in each half.

Murray State's 14-game winning streak trails the all-time school record of 17 set by the 31-5 team from 2009-10...Eastern Illinois has never beaten a ranked team in 16 tries at the Division I level.
