Kansas takes down USC

Dec 23, 2011 - 6:58 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Elijah Johnson scored 14 points and Conner Teahan netted 13 as No. 12 Kansas took down Southern California 63-47.

Tyshawn Taylor added 10 points and nine assists, while Thomas Robinson dropped in 10 with nine rebounds for the Jayhawks (8-3), who were coming off an 80-74 defeat at the hands of Davidson on Monday.

Aaron Fuller was the only member of USC (5-8) to score in double digits, finishing with 19 points as the Trojans were held to just 34.7 percent shooting.

USC had an absolutely horrific first half offensively, shooting just 23 percent from the floor and recording 13 turnovers en route to scoring just 13 points.

Kansas didn't fare much better, shooting 33 percent in the first 20 minutes, but put together a late run for a 25-13 advantage at the break.

After Alexis Moore dropped in a three-pointer to put USC ahead, 10-8, near the midpoint of the first half, Teahan responded with a trey of his own to spark a 17-3 run by the Jayhawks to close out the half.

Taylor had five points in the run, which Teahan capped with another three.

The Trojans almost tripled their offensive output in the second half with 34 points, but it wasn't nearly enough as Kansas reeled off 38 and never trailed in the contest.

The closest USC got in the second half was a 10-point deficit after a 10-3 spurt brought the Trojans within 40-30 a little over seven minutes into the frame.

But Kansas scored the next six points and led by at least 14 points for the remainder of the game.
