Saint Mary's downs San Diego to remain perfect in WCC

Feb 3, 2012 - 7:53 AM Moraga, CA (Sports Network) - Rob Jones posted 28 points and eight rebounds, and No. 18 Saint Mary's pulled out an 84-73 win over San Diego to remain undefeated in West Coast Conference play.

Stephen Holt scored 23 points, while Matthew Dellavedova added 17 for the Gaels (22-2, 11-0 WCC), winners of 12 straight overall.

Chris Manresa shot 10-of-11 from the field and finished with 25 points to lead the Toreros (8-14, 3-7), who fell for the third time in four games despite shooting 60 percent from the field.

Dellavedova scored seven points during a 9-2 run in the second half that gave the Gaels a 67-62 lead with 7 1/2 minutes remaining.

With San Diego's deficit still at five, 78-73, coming down the stretch, Dennis Kramer committed a turnover, and Jones threw down a dunk at the other end with under a minute to play.

Two misses on the Toreros' next possession ended any chance at a comeback.

"Every game someone steps up and delivers," Jones said. "It's someone different every night."

San Diego shot 68 percent from the field in the first half, but only led by four, 42-38, at halftime.
