Syracuse led by as many as 18 points in the first half when Scoop Jardine's layup made it 30-12.

Fordham closed to within 13 at halftime, but Syracuse gradually pushed its lead to 26 at 62-36 on Waiters' jumper with 6:56 remaining. The Orange's advantage reached 30 on four occasions down the stretch.

"I thought our defense was good. I think Fordham is a pretty good basketball team, but I think our defense was good. We didn't give them a lot of easy looks," said Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim.
