Miami handles Florida State

Jan 28, 2013 - 6:04 AM Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Trey McKinney Jones scored a game-high 15 points to lead 25th-ranked Miami-Florida to a 71-47 win over Florida State on Sunday.

Durand Scott and Kenny Kadji each scored 11 points and Shane Larkin added eight points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Hurricanes (15-3, 6-0 ACC), winners in seven straight.

"We were very consistent all the way through the game, we shared the ball and we only had eight turnovers," said Miami head coach Jim Larranaga. "It was a great team effort."

Ian Miller scored 12 points for the Seminoles (11-8, 3-3), losers in three of their last four.

Miami, which was coming off of a 90-63 win over No. 1 Duke on Wednesday, led, 9-7, early in the first half. A Scott jumper sparked an 18-12 swing to provide the Hurricanes with a 27-19 lead with 7:16 left.

Florida State, though, outscored Miami, 7-1, over the next four minutes to pull within 28-26. The Hurricanes closed the half on a 9-2 run to take a 37-28 lead into the break.

A 17-5 Miami run in the early stages of the second half put the Hurricanes ahead 54-33. Miami outscored the Seminoles, 17-14, over the final 12:41 to lock up the win.

The Hurricanes will take on Virginia Tech on Jan. 30 ... Julian Gamble finished with seven points, six rebounds and four blocks for Miami ... The Hurricanes outscored the Seminoles, 34-18, in the paint ... FSU shot 30.8 percent (16-for-52) from the floor and went 3-for-17 from three-point range.
