Traevon Jackson added 11 points, nine of which came in the second half, and Mike Bruesewitz donated 10 points and four assists for the Badgers (13-4, 4-0 Big Ten), who have now won seven straight games following a Dec. 8 loss versus Marquette and 11 straight in the series against Indiana.
Cody Zeller finished with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds for the Hoosiers (15-2, 3-1), who had a six-game win streak stopped and are now 0-9 under coach Tom Crean versus Wisconsin.
The first half, as expected, was a nail-biter. Both teams shot an identical 13-of-38, 46.4 percent from the floor, and there were five ties and multiple lead changes. The Hoosiers led, 32-31.
Zeller had 18 points at the break on 8-of-8 shooting from the field, but Indiana only had three other starters find the scoreboard. Jeremy Hollowell contributed two points, which would be the only off the bench all game for the Hoosiers.
Two Yogi Ferrell free throws helped Indiana take another early one-point, 39-38 lead with just under 15 minutes left in the second half. However, that was the last time that the Hoosiers would lead.
A three-point play by Jackson, followed by a Sam Dekker trey, suddenly gave the Badgers a 44-39 lead. Minutes later, after forcing two IU turnovers, a Bruesewitz 3-point dagger with 12:13 left gave Wisconsin a 47-39 lead.
Both teams turned up the intensity on defense as the contest wound down. Wisconsin managed just five points from the 12:13 to the 4:00 mark, when a Ben Brust jumper which made it 54-51. Two free throws by Christian Watford brought Indiana back within one point with 3:39 remaining.
The Badgers responded with an Evans improbable fadeaway jumper as the shot clock expired and a Jared Berggren steal, which led to a Jackson 2-pointer and a 58-53 lead with just over two minutes left.
"In the second half they made some shots at the shot clock that reminded me of the McDonald's Michael Jordan/Larry Bird H-O-R-S-E commercials," Crean said, referring to Evans' basket.
Six free throws essentially iced the game for Wisconsin from then on.
The Badgers finished with 16 bench points compared to just two for the home team. Dekker was the only other Badger in double-figures with 10 points on 4- of-8 shooting from the field.
"I really liked how hard our guys played and the adjustments that the guys made on the court," Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan said. "If you're going to beat a team like this, you have to have a lot of things go well."
Ferrell scored nine points and Victor Oladipo added 10 for the Hoosiers, who came into the contest with five players averaging 11 points or better per game.
Game Notes
