Harris leads No. 17 Gonzaga past Oklahoma
Nov 24, 2012 - 6:56 AM Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Elias Harris poured in a game-high 18 points to lead No. 17 Gonzaga to a 72-47 triumph over Oklahoma in the semifinals of the Old Spice Classic.Kelly Olynyk donated eight points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs (5-0), who advance to take on Davidson in the championship on Sunday.
"That was a really, really good win for us," Gonzaga coach Mark Few said. "We attacked on the offensive end all night and did another great job playing defense."
Romero Osby paced the Sooners with 13 points and five boards, while Isaiah Cousins chipped in 10 points in the setback, Oklahoma's first of the season.
The Sooners (3-1) will face West Virginia in the third-place game on Sunday.
"Gonzaga did a terrific job in dictating pretty much in every way," Sooners coach Lon Kruger said. "Anytime you get whipped that badly on the boards, you know they were a lot more physical, a lot more aggressive to loose balls."
Gonzaga got off to a fast start and never looked back, as the Bulldogs scored the game's first seven points and held a 14-5 advantage less than nine minutes into the contest.
Oklahoma pulled within three on an Andrew Fitzgerald dunk with under six minutes left until halftime, but the Bulldogs closed the half on a 12-5 swing and carried a 32-22 edge into the locker room.
The lead ballooned to 18 early in the second half, as Harris netted nine points in an 11-0 Gonzaga run to press the lead to 43-25 less than three minutes in.
The Bulldogs' lead never dipped below 15 the rest of the way as Gonzaga cruised to victory.
