Iowa State routs Auburn

Dec 3, 2013 - 7:05 AM Ames, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Dustin Hogue contributed 22 points and 16 rebounds as No. 17 Iowa State Cyclones routed the Auburn Tigers, 99-70, in a Big 12/SEC Challenge game from Hilton Coliseum.

Hogue notched career highs in both points and rebounds and was 8-of-10 from the floor. Melvin Ejim also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Cyclones (6-0) stayed perfect on the season.

"The thing that's impressed me about him is just his overall basketball I.Q.," Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg said of Hogue.

Chris Denson had a game-high 27 points and KT Harrell added 19 points for the Tigers (4-2), who had won three straight coming into the matchup.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball early in the first half.

Auburn jumped out to an early lead after Harrell made a 3-pointer at 14:57 to give the Tigers a 12-5 lead.

"We got off to a good start, then we got cold," Auburn head coach Tony Barbee said.

Iowa State went on an 18-2 run after a Monte Morris layup at 10:07. Hogue and Naz Long made back-to-back shots from beyond the arc. After a tip-in from Hogue, Thomas and Morris both hit triples to give Iowa State a 30-17 lead with 7:26 remaining in the first half.

The Cyclones started off the second half on a 6-0 run. Ejim made two layups in the early going.

Dion Wade tried to shift the momentum Auburn's way, but Hogue answered back with a triple of his own at 17:49.

Thomas hit a 3 off good ball movement as the shot clock expired to put the Cyclones up 79-51 with 6:35 remaining. He quickly made two free throws to extend Iowa State's lead to 30 points.

Game Notes

Iowa State had a season-high 28 assists ... The Cyclones are now 2-1 all-time against Auburn. The two schools last met in the second round of the 2000 NCAA Tournament when Iowa State won 79-60.
