Wisconsin knocks off No. 11 Florida

Nov 13, 2013 - 5:56 AM Madison, WI (SportsNetwork.com) - Traevon Jackson scored 13 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists to guide 20th-ranked Wisconsin to a 59-53 win over No. 11 Florida on Tuesday.

Sam Dekker added 16 points and Ben Brust had 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists for the Badgers (2-0), who improved to 91-7 against non- conference opponents at Kohl Center under Bo Ryan.

Michael Frazier II scored a game-high 20 points and Casey Prather scored 12 points for the Gators (1-1), who shot just 40.4 percent (19-for-47) from the field.

"Being the second game of the year and playing an opponent like this, I thought we really made some strides from our last game to this game. I thought we had a really, really hard time finishing some plays, particularly around the basket," said Florida head coach Billy Donovan.

After closing the first half on a 13-2 run, the Badgers kept their foot on the gas and pushed their lead to double digits after Dekker split a pair of free throws just over 5 1/2 minutes into the second half for a 42-32 lead.

Frazier canned one of his five treys with just over seven minutes to go to pull Florida within five, 49-44, and a pair of Patric Young free throws made it a one possession game with five minutes left.

Frank Kaminsky, though, buried a 3-ball from the left wing to make it 54-48.

Will Yeguete's jump hook with three minutes to go pulled Florida within four once again.

After both sides split a pair of free throws, Young drew a foul and went to the line with a chance to make it a two-point game. Young missed the first, but knocked down his second try to make it a one possession game with 42 ticks showing.

Jackson, who came through clutch for Wisconsin several times last season, dribbled the clock down to 11 seconds before burying a jumper from the right elbow that essentially sealed the win.

"He's been in so many tough situations that I wasn't trading him those last five minutes," Ryan said of Jackson.

After Jacob Kurtz was blocked on the other end, Brust split a pair of free throws to account for the final difference.

Florida raced out to a 16-4 lead following Frazier's triple just inside the 13-minute mark. Wisconsin, though, countered with a pair of 3-pointers of his own to pull the Badgers within 16-10.

The teams traded buckets from there until Prather put the Gators on top 24-16 with 7:55 remaining in the first half.

A Dekker dunk sparked a 13-0 run to give Florida a 29-24 lead with 40 seconds left in the half, and Yeguete finally stopped the bleeding with a pair of free throws with 12 ticks to go, sending the Gators into the break trailing 29-26.
