Cotton, No. 16 Wichita State take down Tennessee State

Nov 16, 2013 - 11:48 PM Wichita, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Tekele Cotton scored 18 points and the 16th- ranked Wichita State Shockers beat the Tennessee State Tigers by an 85-71 margin on Saturday.

Cleanthony Early added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Shockers (4-0), who outscored Tennessee State by a 57-42 margin in the second half. Nick Wiggins tallied 12 points for the victorious hosts.

Patrick Miller ended with 23 points for the Tigers, who are off to their first 0-4 start since the 2010-11 season. M.J. Rhett had 16 points and a game-best 11 boards.

Tennessee State held a 29-28 lead at halftime and Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall pointed out his team was playing its fourth game in eight days.

"That's a lot right out of the shoot, but if you can play (well) in the second half, why can't you play (well) in the first half," he said.

Trailing 36-33 with 17 1/2 minutes to play, Wichita State went on a 15-2 run to take the lead. Cotton tallied five points during the surge, including a 3- pointer with 13:07 left to make it 48-38.

Wiggins scored five straight points moments later to give the Shockers a 58-45 edge. Wichita State cruised to victory from there.
