No. 12 UNC routs East Carolina

Dec 7, 2014 - 11:41 PM Chapel Hill, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - Brice Johnson posted a monster double- double of 19 points and a career-best 17 rebounds as 12th-ranked North Carolina trounced East Carolina 108-64.

J.P. Tokoto also scored 19 points and dished out eight assists for the Tar Heels (6-2), who bounced back from Wednesday's home loss to Iowa. North Carolina shot 60 percent from the floor Sunday after being held to a 27.9 percent by the Hawkeyes.

"Needless to say, we played a heck of a lot better than we did Wednesday night," said North Carolina head coach Roy Williams. "We invested a lot more in the last couple of days. Mentally, we were more in the game."

Kennedy Meeks finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds for his fifth double- double of the season.

Terry Whisnant led East Carolina (4-5) with 15 points and B.J. Tyson scored 13 but made only 2-of-13 field goals. The Pirates, who were 4-for-25 from 3-point range, have dropped consecutive games for the first time this season.

The Tar Heels were down four early, but a Tokoto three-point play gave the home team a 19-12 lead. North Carolina later went on a 10-0 run to go up 34-18 and carried a 48-29 advantage into halftime.

There was no threat of a comeback by East Carolina, which shot 24.3 percent in the second half.

North Carolina had a 51-29 rebounding edge and outscored East Carolina 72-32 in the paint ... The Pirates registered only five assists on 23 made field goals ... The Tar Heels have won all four meetings between the two teams.
