No. 17 Miami returns home to beat South Alabama

Nov 29, 2014 - 2:43 AM Coral Gables, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Sheldon McClellan scored 17 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting, including 4-of-4 from the foul line, to lead No. 17 Miami-Florida to an 87-75 win over South Alabama on Friday.

Manu Lecomte netted 14 points, and Tonye Jekiri filled the stat sheet with 13 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and five blocks for the Hurricanes (7-0).

Ken Williams paced the Jaguars (1-3) with 16 points, while Dionte Ferguson and Barrington Stevens each chipped in with 12 in a third straight loss.

Miami played at BankUnited Center for just the second time this season and first since its season-opening win against Howard on Nov. 14. The Hurricanes edged then-No. 8 Florida in Gainesville, then took three games en route to winning the Charleston Classic, the last of which came against Charlotte, who they played Tuesday to wrap up their five-game trip.

Miami didn't take long to show its home-court advantage, surging out of the gate to a 23-0 lead. Lecomte made a pair of 3-pointers during the run and Ja'Quan Newton capped it with a jumper with under 12 minutes left.

Abdul Lewis ended the Jaguars legnthy scoring drought, breaking an 0-for-11 start with a jumper at 11:19.

The Hurricanes remained comfortably in front and took a 43-21 lead into the locker room at half.

South Alabama made it interesting late in the second half, cutting its deficit to 11 on two occassions, but it couldn't make up for its early struggles.

Miami went 31-for-57 (54.4 percent) from the floor and limited South Alabama to 32-of-79 (40.5 percent) shooting ... Omar Sherman and Deandre Burnett scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench for the Hurricanes.
