Morris, No. 14 Iowa State rout Georgia State

Nov 18, 2014 - 4:44 AM Ames, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Monte Morris had 19 points, nine assists and five rebounds to guide No. 14 Iowa State in an 81-58 victory over Georgia State on Monday.

Naz Long scored 17 points, Bryce Dejean-Jones had 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists and Dustin Hogue had 15 points and seven rebounds for the Cyclones (2-0), who defeated Oakland to open the season.

R.J. Hunter scored 21 points while Ryan Harrow had 12 points for the Panthers (1-1), who defeated Tennessee Temple on Friday.

It was a tight first half and Georgia State held the lead a couple of times, with the last coming with just over seven minutes to play after Markus Crider hit a jumper for a 23-22 lead.

Iowa State scored the next six points to grab the lead back and eventually went into the locker room with a 35-29 lead at the break.

The Cyclones scored the first seven points of the second half with a layup from Dejean-Jones giving the team a 42-29 lead.

Iowa State used a 12-2 run later in the half to put the game away, as Hogue hit two free throws and a layup to close the run for a 68-44 lead with 8 1/2 minutes to play.

Game Notes

Iowa State shot 48.3 percent, compared to just 39.1 percent for Georgia State ... This was the first-ever matchup between these two schools.
