No. 14 Wichita State routs Drake

Jan 26, 2015 - 1:53 AM Wichita, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Ron Baker had 15 points, Tekele Cotton added 10 and No. 14 Wichita State routed Drake 74-40 on Sunday afternoon.

The Shockers have won 26 consecutive games in Missouri Valley Conference play, the league's longest streak since Kansas' 34-game run from 1922-24.

Fred VanVleet posted eight points, six assists and four steals for Wichita State (18-2, 8-0 MVC), which has won eight straight since losing to George Washington in Hawaii on Christmas.

"We're just gelling together really well ... we're having a lot of fun out there," Baker said.

Nobody from the Bulldogs (4-16, 1-7) reached double figures in scoring. Reed Timmer led the way with eight points.

"They play harder and tougher than anyone. They should be an example for every high school and junior high team out there on how to play the game," Drake coach Ray Giacoletti said of Wichita State.

Darius Carter netted all six of his points in the opening minutes as the Shockers raced out to a 13-4 start. Wichita State upped the advantage to 19 late in the half before a Gary Ricks Jr. jumper at the first half horn whittled the Drake deficit to 36-19.

The Shockers led by as many as 39 over the final 20 minutes.
