Top-ranked Florida overtakes Alabama
Feb 15, 2007 - 3:42 AM GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Florida is making a habit of huge second-half comebacks.Taurean Green scored all 20 of his points in the second half as the top-ranked Gators rallied for a 76-67 Southeastern Conference victory over Alabama.
Florida (24-2, 11-0 SEC East) extended its winning streak to a school record-tying 17 games while also equaling school marks for regular-season victories and home wins (16) in a season.
It didn't come easy as the Crimson Tide (18-7, 5-6 West) scored the first 11 points of the game and grabbed a 22-4 lead less than seven minutes into the contest.
A 3-pointer by Mykal Riley put Alabama in front, 42-31, at halftime, the same margin the Gators faced against Vanderbilt before roaring back to win on January 31.
Consecutive jumpers by Green started an 11-2 run that the junior point guard capped with a 3-pointer to give Florida its first lead at 56-54 with 9:19 to play.
Then with the score tied at 64-64, Green scored seven straight points - including the 1,000th of his career - in an 8-0 run that extended the margin to 72-64 with 48 seconds to play.
Corey Brewer added 16 points for the Gators, who shot 51 percent (25-of-49) in giving coach Billy Donovan his 250th victory at the school.
Richard Hendrix scored 16 points and Alonzo Gee 15 for Alabama, which was limited to just 10 field goals in the second half.
