No. 9 Connecticut wraps up long homestand vs. Coppin State

Dec 27, 2006 - 4:50 PM Coppin St (2-8) at No. 9 Connecticut (10-0) 7:00 pm EST

HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- Playing with a youthful roster, Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun could not have asked for a more successful homestand.

The ninth-ranked Huskies look to finish their season-opening 11-game homestand undefeated and continue one of the best starts in school history Wednesday when they host Coppin State.

Connecticut has won a school-record 29 straight home contests and 121 of its last 122 against non-conference opponents in November and December. The Huskies average 10.5 blocks, 8.7 steals and are limiting their foes to 34 percent shooting from the floor.

A.J. Price scored 17 points, Doug Wiggins added 16 and Hasheem Thabeet 15 for Connecticut, which posted a 48-28 rebounding advantage in last Wednesday's 88-66 victory over Pepperdine.

Coppin State has lost its last four games and is winless in nine road contests. The Eagles have never beaten a Big East opponent in 19 tries and have lost 33 of 34 against ranked teams.

Connecticut has won both previous meetings against Coppin State by an average margin of 33.5 points. The Huskies posted an 89-44 win over the Eagles on November 29, 1999.
