No. 10 Kansas looks for 10th win in 11 games ve. Detroit

Dec 28, 2006 - 4:34 PM Detroit (3-8) at No. 10 Kansas (10-2) 8:00 pm EST

LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- As Kansas inches closer to the start of Big 12 Conference play, coach Bill Self has to be pleased with his team's defensive intensity.

The 10th-ranked Jayhawks look for their fifth consecutive victory and 10th in their last 11 outings Thursday when they host Detroit.

Unbeaten since a 64-57 loss to DePaul on December 2, Kansas has yielded an average of 54.2 points in its last six outings and 58.4 this season. The Jayhawks have also limited their foes to 38 percent shooting from the floor.

Thanks to a switch to a 3-2 zone defense late in the first half, Kansas used a 24-4 run to break open Saturday's game against Boston College. The Jayhawks went on to an 84-66 victory over the Eagles.

Mario Chalmers made 9-of-16 shots and scored 22 points and Brandon Rush added 15 for Kansas, which forced 22 turnovers.

Detroit lost its first four games in December before posting a 60-51 triumph over Northeastern on Friday.

Ryvon Coville scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the campaign. Brandon Cotton added 16 points and Jon Goode had 10 for the Titans.

The teams have not met since Kansas recorded a 60-51 win over Detroit on January 6, 1986. The Jayhawks have won both encounters against the Titans.
