No. 20 Oregon seeks to continue best start in 60 years

Dec 28, 2006 - 4:38 PM Portland (3-11) at No. 20 Oregon (11-0) 10:00 pm EST

EUGENE, Oregon (Ticker) -- As one of the last remaining undefeated teams in Division I, Oregon is in the process of rewriting the school record book.

The 20th-ranked Ducks look to continue their best start in 60 years and extend their overall winning streak to 12 games Thursday when they face struggling Portland.

Oregon has not opened a campaign with 12 victories since 1946-1947 and has not captured 12 in a row overall since it won 14 straight from February 26, 1946-January 3, 1947. The Ducks have not been unbeaten prior to the start of Pac-10 play since 1996-1997.

Aaron Brooks scored 27 points, Bryce Taylor had 21 and Marrty Luenen 10 with a career-high 18 rebounds for Oregon in Saturday's 84-64 triumph over Mercer.

Winless in six road games this season, Portland ended a nine-game losing streak with Friday's 61-58 triumph over Montana.

Oregon has won 21 of the 22 home encounters against Portland. The lone defeat came on February 18, 1964.
