Notre Dame faces Rider, aims to extend winning streak

Dec 28, 2006 - 4:39 PM Rider (7-4) at No. 24 Notre Dame (10-1) 8:00 pm EST

SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- Colin Falls hopes to have another strong game Thursday when No. 24 Notre Dame faces Rider in a non-conference matchup.

Falls missed two games with inflammation in his right foot and returned to nail six 3-pointers en route to a season-high 24 points as Notre Dame coasted to an 88-47 victory over Army last Thursday.

Falls started the game nailing his first seven shots, including his first four from the arc. The Irish connected on 15 3-pointers in the game to extend their winning streak to nine games - their longest string in 20 years.

Notre Dame's last 10-game winning steak was during the 1986-87 season, when they won 11 in a row before losing to North Carolina in the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament.

Rider snapped a two-game losing streak with a 74-72 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday. Terrance Mouton scored 23 points, including two key shots from the arc in the closing minutes for the Broncs.

The Irish won the lone meeting between the squads in 1999.
