Arizona aims to extend winning streak in conference opener
Dec 28, 2006 - 4:53 PM California (8-4) at No. 7 Arizona (9-1) 8:30 pm ESTTUCSON, Arizona (Ticker) - Riding a nine-game winning streak, No. 7 Arizona hosts California on Thursday in its Pac-10 Conference opener.
Eight days ago, freshman Chase Budinger scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half as Arizona captured its ninth straight win with a 79-71 victory over No. 18 Memphis.
One of the top recruits in the nation, Budinger led a charge after intermission as the Wildcats recovered from a 38-33 deficit. It was the Wildcats' first win over a ranked opponent in 2006-07.
The Bears were routed, 90-62, against DePaul in their last contest on Saturday. They have lost three out of their last five games. California has dropped its last 11 games on the road against the Wildcats.
