Michigan State looks to keep non-conference success going

Dec 30, 2006 - 3:59 PM Loyola (MD) (5-5) at No. 25 Michigan St (12-2) 12:00 pm EST

EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- Michigan State will play the finale of an extremely successful non-conference schedule.

The 25th-ranked Spartans aim to set a school-record for non-conference wins against Loyola of Maryland on Saturday.

Michigan State has gotten off to a hot start but has yet to begin its conference schedule. In the week ahead, it will start the Big Ten season at Iowa and Indiana but first it must finish up its slate against lesser opponents.

The Spartans are currently 10-0 at the Breslin Center this campaign and have won 12 non-conference matchups already. In their last contest, Drew Neitzel scored 22 points to lead the Spartans to a 76-64 triumph over Wisconsin-Green Bay on Saturday.

Marquis Sullivan had 17 points and Gerald Brown 15 for the Greyhounds in a 66-60 loss to Northwestern on Thursday. Loyola has lost three of its last four contests.

This will be the first ever meeting between the schools.
