Duke gets set for start of ACC, faces San Jose St.

Dec 31, 2006 - 3:13 PM San Jose St. (1-11) at No. 5 Duke (11-1) 1:00 pm EST

DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Greg Paulus and Duke get one last chance to tuneup before Atlantic Coast Conference play begins in January.

The fifth-ranked Blue Devils host a struggling San Jose State team, which has lost four consecutive games, on Sunday.

Paulus, who has had a slow start to his season due to an preseason foot injury, scored a career-high 20 points as Duke defeated then-No. 24 Gonzaga, 61-54, in the Aeropostale Classic on December 21.

Junior DeMarcus Nelson leads the Blue Devils in scoring with 14.7 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding with just over five per contest.

Center Menelik Barbary scored 24 points off the bench as the Spartans absorbed a 104-77 defeat at the hands of Cal State Fullerton on December 23.
