The second-ranked Tar Heels won their eighth straight decision in convincing fashion Thursday, pounding Rutgers, 87-48. Freshman Brandan Wright led the team with 19 points while fellow first-year player Wayne Ellington added 17.
Wright is averaging 15.7 points per game this season along with 6.5 rebounds.
The Flyers had their eight-game winning streak snapped in an 86-65 loss to then-No. 7 Pittsburgh on December 23 despite 23 points by Brian Roberts.
Dayton, which are 0-2 on the road this season, have lost its last nine road games against teams in the top 25.
