UCLA aims to remain unbeaten

Dec 31, 2006 - 4:00 PM No. 13 Washington (10-2) at No. 1 UCLA (12-0) 5:00 pm EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- After surviving a scare by one team from the "Evergreen State," UCLA will look return to its high-scoring ways.

The top-ranked Bruins try to continue their undefeated start when they host 13th-ranked Washington Huskies in a Pac-10 Conference clash Sunday.

UCLA captured its 12th straight game with a 55-52 victory over Washington State on Thursday in their conference opener.

With the Bruins trailing early in the second half, sophomore point guard Darren Collison took over, scoring all 13 of his points in the second half.

Leading scorer Arron Afflalo also had 13 for UCLA, which avoided its first loss despite shooting only 33 percent (18-of-55) from the floor.

The Huskies will try to rebound from an 86-79 setback in double overtime to Southern California in their league opener on Thursday. Freshman Spencer Hawes, who forced the game into the second extra stanza with his first 3-pointer of the season, led Washington with a season-high 24 points.

The 6-11 center has either set or tied a season high in points in his last three games, shooting 65 percent (30-of-46) from the field.
