Tar Heels host Penn in final ACC tuneup
Jan 3, 2007 - 4:06 PM Penn (6-5) at No. 2 North Carolina (12-1) 8:00 pm ESTCHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- The North Carolina Tar Heels get their final tuneup before they start league play when they host Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
The No. 2 Tar Heels won their ninth straight game by pounding Dayton, 81-51, on Sunday.
Tyler Hansbrough led North Carolina with 17 points while Brandan Wright added 16. Hansbrough leads North Carolina with an 18.1 points-per-game average and 7.6 rebounds per game.
A key to the game was the Tar Heels' defense, which limited the Flyers to only 31 percent shooting. North Carolina has been very strong defensively lately, holding their last four opponents to 52 points or less.
The Quakers, who have won the Ivy League crown the last two seasons, are 1-2 in their last three games.
Penn dropped an 84-75 decision to Big East opponent Seton Hall on Saturday. Senior guard Ibrahim Jaaber, who is averaging 15.7 points per game this season, led the Quakers with 27 points against the Pirates.
