No. 23 Memphis goes for 22nd straight home win vs. Cincinnati

Jan 4, 2007 - 4:43 PM Cincinnati (9-4) at No. 23 Memphis (10-3) 9:00 pm EST

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Although they no longer play in the same conference, Memphis and Cincinnati are quite familiar with each other.

The 23rd-ranked Tigers try to extend their home winning streak to 22 straight games - the nation's fifth-best active run - Thursday when they host the Bearcats.

Prior to last season, when Cincinnati moved to the Big East Conference, the teams played as members of the Missouri Valley Conference (1968-1970), the Metro Conference (1976-1991), the Great Midwest (1992-1995) and Conference USA (1996-2005). Memphis has lost 18 of the past 25 encounters with Cincinnati.

The Tigers won their first Conference USA game of the campaign by defeating Marshall, 78-59, on December 4. They have won four of their last five outings, including last Wednesday's 87-62 triumph over Lamar.

Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 19 points, Robert Dozier added 13 and Jeremy Hunt and Kareem Cooper 12 each for Memphis, which limited Lamar to 31 percent (20-of-64) shooting from the floor.

Cincinnati has split its last four games and is playing its final non-conference opponent before opening its Big East schedule Sunday against Rutgers.

John Williamson and Jamual Warren scored 15 points apiece and Cedric McGowan and Marvin Gentry added 13 each for the Bearcats in Saturday's 79-66 loss to Ohio.
