No. 17 Oregon can tie school record for best start vs. USC

Jan 4, 2007 - 4:52 PM USC (11-4) at No. 17 Oregon (13-0) 8:30 pm EST

EUGENE, Oregon (Ticker) -- On the verge of a major milestone, Oregon cannot afford to look past its next opponent.

The 17th-ranked Ducks attempt to tie a school record for the best season start Thursday when they host Southern California in a Pac-10 Conference showdown.

Oregon is in the midst of its longest winning streak in 60 years and can open a campaign with 14 wins for just the third time. The Ducks set the mark in 1926-1927 and matched it in 1937-1938.

Bryce Taylor scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Maarty Leunen added 14 points for the Ducks in Saturday's 76-73 victory over Oregon State.

However, Oregon will need to focus on the Trojans and not look ahead to Saturday's matchup with undefeated and top-ranked UCLA.

USC is off to its best 15-game start in four years. However, the Trojans have split their last four contests after a four-game winning streak and are 1-1 in the Pac-10.

Nick Young scored 15 points and Taj Gibson and Dwight Lewis added 11 apiece for USC in Saturday's 58-55 loss to Washington State, which snapped a nine-game home winning streak.

Oregon has won seven of the last eight meetings against USC.
