Clemson looks to remain unbeaten, hosts Georgia Tech

Jan 6, 2007 - 4:00 PM Georgia Tech (11-3) at No. 18 Clemson (15-0) 4:00 pm EST

CLEMSON, South Carolina (Ticker) -- The 18th-ranked Clemson Tigers look to extend their best start in 20 years when they host Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Clemson (15-0), is one of only two teams in the nation, along with top-ranked UCLA, without a loss this season. The Tigers are off to their best start since the 1986-87 team set a school record by opening 17-0.

The Tigers got a scare in their most recent victory, a 68-66 win at Florida State in their Atlantic Coast Conference opener on Wednesday. Cliff Hammonds hit the game-winning layup with just three seconds left.

K.C. Rivers, who leads the Tigers with 14.6 points per game, had 16 against the Seminoles, while James Mays added 14. Clemson opened 11-0 last season as well, but lost Mays to academic difficulties and then dropped 10 of its next 13 games.

Georgia Tech (11-3), beat Winston Salem State 97-46 on Wednesday and has won five straight overall.

Anthony Morrow made 7-of-11 3-pointers to score a season-high 21 points for the Yellow Jackets, who suspended third-leading scorer Lewis Cinch on Friday for the rest of the season for an unspecified violation of school policy.

The Yellow Jackets have lost two straight to the Tigers but have won seven of their last nine in the series.

Clemson hasn't opened its ACC schedule 2-0 since the 1996-97 season.
