Davis, LSU square off with UConn in rematch from last season

Jan 6, 2007 - 4:36 PM No. 14 Connecticut (12-1) at No. 19 LSU (10-3) 9:00 pm EST

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- Glen Davis and Louisiana State suffered a disappointing loss the last time they faced Connecticut. The Tigers will see a very different Huskies team this time around.

No. 19 LSU aims to exact a measure of revenge Saturday when it hosts 14th-ranked UConn.

One of the nation's surprise teams last season, the Tigers dropped a 67-66 decision last January 7 against the Huskies, who were ranked second at the time.

However, LSU never looked back after losing to the Huskies, claiming the Southeastern Conference title and advancing to the Final Four.

Since losing here on November 25 to Wichita State, the Tigers have won six straight home contests, including a 60-45 triumph over Samford on December 29.

Davis scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds for LSU, which has won four straight overall.

The Tigers hope to improve that mark against a UConn squad which features five sophomores and eight freshmen, a far cry from last year's team which had four players currently in the NBA.

The young Huskies, who have played 12 of their 13 games at home, hope to rebound from a disappointing performance in their only other road game this season, an 81-71 loss at West Virginia last Saturday.

UConn looked better at home in its 69-50 triumph over South Florida on Tuesday. Sophomore forward Jeff Adrien scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while freshman guard Jerome Dyson chipped in 16 points for the Huskies.
