Kansas looks for first road win

Jan 7, 2007 - 5:39 PM No. 9 Kansas (12-2) at South Carolina (10-2) 4:30 pm EST

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Ninth-ranked Kansas has only played one game on the road this season, and lost it.

The Jayhawks try for their first road win and gain some experience when they tangle with South Carolina in their final non-conference game before the start of the Big 12 Conference on Sunday.

Kansas, which lost, 64-57, to DePaul in its only contest on the road this season, has won six straight games coming into the contest against South Carolina.

The Jayhawks downed Rhode Island, 80-69, on December 30 to extend the winning streak. Julian Wright led Kansas with a career-high 23 points.

The Gamecocks have also won six straight, including a 67-53 victory over Western Carolina on Wednesday despite 17 turnovers. Bryce Sheldon netted 20 points while Brandis Raley-Ross scored 18.

South Carolina shot 43 percent from the field while holding Western Carolina to 38 percent.

This is just the seventh time in the past 10 years that the Gamecocks are hosting a ranked team. South Carolina has dropped five of the previous six.
