North Carolina hosts Florida State in ACC opener
Jan 7, 2007 - 5:46 PM Florida St (12-3) at No. 2 North Carolina (13-1) 7:00 pm ESTCHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Second-ranked North Carolina finally starts Atlantic Coast Conference play when it hosts Florida State on Sunday.
The Tar Heels, winner of 10 straight games, finished their non-conference schedule with an easy 102-64 win over Penn on Wednesday.
Tyler Hansbrough and Reyshawn Terry each scored 19 points to pace North Carolina, which played solid defensively in forcing 20 turnovers while only committing 10 of their own.
The Seminoles (12-3, 0-1 ACC) had also been playing well, but had their eight-game win streak snapped in a 68-66 loss to No. 23 Clemson in their league opener.
Al Thornton scored 19 points to lead Florida State, which committed 21 turnovers in defeat.
North Carolina has won its last four games over Florida State and 15 of the last 18.
