Orangemen play only second road game, face Marquette

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Syracuse play only its second road game of the season when they visit No. 21 Marquette in a Big East Conference matchup on Sunday.

In their only previous road tilt, Syracuse defeated Canisius, 81-71, in Buffalo on November 25.

The Orangemen (11-4, 0-1 Big East) had a tough start to league play with a 74-66 home loss to Pittsburgh on Thursday.

Eric Devendorf led Syracuse with 17 points, but Demetris Nichols managed only 11, snapping a streak of six straight games with at least 20 points. On the season, the senior Nichols is averaging 19.2 points.

The Golden Eagles (13-3, 0-1) also came up short in their conference opener with a 74-59 loss to Providence on Thursday.

Wesley Matthews led Marquette with 14 points while Dominic James and Lazar Hayward each added 11. Hayward entered only averaging 6.8 points per game.

This is the first meeting since 1985. Syracuse leads the all-time series, 3-2.
