Flying high, Air Force hosts New Mexico in conference matchup

Jan 9, 2007 - 4:41 PM New Mexico (11-6) at No. 15 Air Force (15-1) 9:00 pm EST

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (Ticker) -- Off to the best start in the program's history, Air Force is in a perfect spot to keep it going - at home.

The 15th-ranked Falcons look to continue their hot streaks when they host New Mexico on Tuesday in a Mountain West Conference matchup.

At 15-1, Air Force is off to the best 16-game start in program history, eclipsing the 14-2 mark set last season. The Falcons have won 11 straight since losing to Duke in November and are 8-0 at home this season.

In fact, Clune Arena has provided Air Force with a huge advantage in recent seasons. The Falcons are 48-1 in their last 49 home games and they have won 23 of their last 24 conference games at home.

Air Force improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 56-50 victory over UNLV on Saturday that ran its home-court winning streak to 24 games.

The Falcons start four seniors and a junior, all five of whom average in double figures. Air Force is allowing only 54.5 points per game and has yielded more than 52 points once in its last six games.

New Mexico (11-6, 0-2) is sliding, having lost three straight games and four of six since an upset of Wichita State on December 22.

The Lobos lead the series, 41-16. The teams split their two meetings last season, each winning on its home court.
