Mejia looks to lead DePaul over No. 7 Pittsburgh

Jan 10, 2007 - 5:20 PM No. 7 Pittsburgh (14-2) at DePaul (10-6) 7:00 pm EST

CHICAGO (Ticker) -- Sammy Mejia continues to pile up milestones while keeping DePaul on a roll.

Mejia looks to lead the Blue Demons to their seventh victory in eight games Wednesday when they host No. 7 Pittsburgh in a Big East Conference meeting.

The team's second-leading scorer (15.5), Mejia is expected to make his 100th career start for DePaul. The 6-6 senior needs one assist to move into 10th place in school history (352) and four 3-pointers to become the second Blue Demons player with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 300 assists, 100 steals and 100 3-pointers.

Mejia, who was named Big East Player of the Week twice in a recent four-week stretch, scored 23 points and Wilson Chandler added 18 with 11 rebounds for DePaul in Saturday's 73-65 at Villanova.

After consecutive losses at Wisconsin and Oklahoma State in mid-December, Pittsburgh has won four in a row and is off to a 2-0 start in conference play.

Levance Fields scored 11 points and was the only player in double figures for the Panthers, who posted a 38-28 rebounding advantage in Sunday's 69-48 triumph over South Florida.

Pittsburgh rallied from a 13-point deficit for a 73-65 victory over DePaul in their last meeting on January 12, 2006. It was their first matchup since the 1935-1936 campaign.
