Cowboys, Jayhawks square off in early season showdown

LAWRENCE, Kansas (Ticker) -- After rolling through its non-conference schedule, Kansas will be tested in its league opener.

The sixth-ranked Jayhawks open Big 12 Conference play Wednesday when they host No. 10 Oklahoma State.

The Jayhawks, who have won their last seven games, should be ready for their league opener after defeating South Carolina, 70-54, on Sunday.

Mario Chalmers led the Jayhawks with 19 points while Darrell Arthur added 17 for the Jayhawks, who shot 59 percent from the field while holding the Gamecocks to 39 percent shooting.

Chalmers, who is only averaging 10.5 points per game, has averaged 21.3 points in his last four games.

The Cowboys have won four straight, including an 81-77 victory over Baylor in their league opener on Saturday. Mario Boggan led Oklahoma State with 26 points and 13 rebounds while JamesOn Curry added 20.

Boggan, who is averaging 20.7 points per game, only had 13 in an 84-47 win over Texas-San Antonio on December 30, but rebounded with 36 points in a 129-77 rout of Southwestern Oklahoma State on January 2.
