Fazekas unlikely to play for No. 15 Nevada vs. San Jose St

Jan 11, 2007 - 5:46 PM No. 15 Nevada (14-1) at San Jose State (1-13) 10:00 pm EST

SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) - Just when things were going well for Nevada, its best player is likely to be sidelined with an ankle injury.

The 15th-ranked Wolf Pack are expected to be without leading scorer Nick Fazekas on Thursday, when they go for their eighth consecutive victory against San Jose State in a Western Athletic Conference matchup.

The two-time reigning WAC Player of the Year, Fazekas suffered the injury in Monday's 90-86 victory over Boise State in which he had 14 points and nine rebounds in just 15 minutes. Marcelus Kemp scored 27 points and Ramon Sessions added 21 for the Wolf Pack (14-1, 2-0 WAC).

Fazekas is averaging 20.3 points and ranks among the nation's leaders with 12.1 rebounds. He is the school's all-time leader in points (2,117), blocked shots (167), field goals (775) and free throws (464).

However, Nevada may not need Fazekas against San Jose State (1-13, 0-2), which has lost six in a row since its lone victory, an 80-63 triumph over Cal-Poly on December 3.

The Spartans are coming off Saturday's 74-68 loss to New Mexico State in which Carlton Spencer scored 17 points, Devonte Thomas added 13 and Jamon Hill 12.

Nevada has won the last eight matchups with San Jose State dating to March 2, 2002.
