Pitt hosts Georgetown in battle of Big East powers

Jan 13, 2007 - 4:56 PM Georgetown (11-4) at No. 7 Pittsburgh (15-2) 9:00 pm EST

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Seventh-ranked Pittsburgh hosts Georgetown on Saturday in a matchup of the teams picked by league coaches to finish 1-2 in the Big East Conference.

The Panthers (15-2, 3-0 Big East) sit atop the conference standings and have won five straight games since absorbing back-to-back losses to Wisconsin and Oklahoma State.

On Wednesday, the Panthers posted a 59-49 wire-to-wire victory at DePaul behind 18 points from center Aaron Gray.

Pitt, which is 10-0 at home this season, has held Big East opponents to fewer than 50 points in consecutive games for the first time, having limited South Florida to 48 the previous contest.

Georgetown (11-4, 1-1) had a seven-game winning streak halted in a 56-52 home loss to Villanova on Monday.

Freshman DaJuan Summers scored 16 points to pace the Hoyas, who led by nine points early in the second half.

Georgetown, which is opening a three-game road trip, has won the last two meetings.
