No. 6 Pittsburgh seeks to remain unbeaten in Big East play

Jan 16, 2007 - 4:28 PM Connecticut (13-3) at No. 6 Pittsburgh (16-2) 7:00 pm EST

PITTSBURGH (Ticker) - Pittsburgh continues to find ways to win to remain the lone undefeated team in the Big East Conference.

Off to a 4-0 start in conference play for the fourth time in six seasons, the seventh-ranked Panthers go for their 17th victory in 19 games in Tuesday's Big East showdown with Connecticut.

Pittsburgh set a season low with 23 rebounds and allowed Georgetown to shoot nearly 61 percent (28-of-46) from the floor but still emerged with a 74-69 triumph Saturday. It was the first time in 69 games an opponent shot better than 50 percent against the Panthers.

Mike Cook scored 18 points and Aaron Gray and Antonio Graves added 11 apiece for Pittsburgh, which shot 59 percent (28-of-47) and limited Georgetown to just 18 rebounds.

The Panthers have won their last 11 home games and are 29-5 in conference play at the Petersen Events Center. They have captured 75 of their last 81 home contests overall.

Connecticut avoided its first three-game losing streak since January 13-30, 2001, with Saturday's 68-59 triumph over St. John's. However, it did not avoid falling out of the rankings for the first time since March 2003.

A.J. Price scored 15 points, Stanley Robinson added 13 with 12 rebounds and Hasheem Thabeet 12 points for the Huskies, who have split their first four Big East games.

Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun, who left the bench in the second half with an upset stomach, is three wins shy of 500 with the Huskies and five away from 750 overall.
