Tennessee looks to avoid first three-game skid under Pearl

Jan 17, 2007 - 2:49 PM No. 24 Tennessee (13-4) at Auburn (11-7) 8:00 pm EST

AUBURN, Alabama (Ticker) -- Tennessee has lost its last two games in devastating fashion. A third defeat would mark an unprecedented low for the program under coach Bruce Pearl.

The 24th-ranked Volunteers look to avoid a season-high three-game skid Wednesday when they visit Auburn in a Southeastern Conference.

Four days after an 82-81 loss to SEC rival Vanderbilt, Tennessee (13-4, 1-1 SEC East) dropped a heartbreaking 68-66 decision to No. 7 Ohio State on Saturday.

Chris Lofton scored 23 points Saturday for the Volunteers and has been averaging 25.2 points over his last four games.

A loss Wednesday would put Tennessee on its longest skid under Pearl, who guided the Volunteers to a 22-8 record last season, his first in Knoxville.

Auburn (11-7, 1-2 SEC West) has lost three of its last four contests and hopes to bounce back from Saturday's 65-63 loss to No. 19 Louisiana State.

Rasheem Barrett scored 18 points to pace the Tigers, who have lost seven of their last nine meetings with the Volunteers.
