Rebels look to end SEC road woes with trip to LSU

Jan 17, 2007 - 3:36 PM Ole Miss (12-5) at No. 19 LSU (12-4) 8:00 pm EST

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (Ticker) -- A pair of streaks will be on the line Wednesday when No. 19 Louisiana State hosts Mississippi in a Southeastern Conference matchup.

The Tigers would very much like to extend their 18-game home winning streak against conference opponents while the Rebels come to Pete Maravich Assembly Center looking to snap an eight-game SEC road skid.

LSU (12-4, 1-1 SEC West) barely was able to keep its home streak alive in its last game, a 65-63 victory over Auburn on Saturday.

In his first game as a starter this season, guard Terry Martin made the move pay off by hitting five 3-pointers and finishing with 23 points for the Tigers, who have won six of their last seven contests.

A transfer from Texas Tech, Martin has played in eight games for the Tigers this season and is averaging 11.3 points per game.

Martin's outside shooting would be a welcome addition to the LSU offense, which boasts one of the country's top inside threats in forward Glen Davis. The 2006 SEC Player of the Year, Davis is averaging 19.2 points and 10.9 rebounds this season.

Ole Miss (12-5, 1-2 SEC West) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 74-72 victory over Arkansas last Saturday.

If the Rebels do not manage to break their conference road skid against the Tigers, the run will likely reach 10 games after a visit to No. 1 Florida on Saturday.

LSU leads the series that started in 1910, 112-77. The Tigers have won the last five meetings and 10-of-14.
