Notre Dame visits Villanova in Big East clash

Jan 17, 2007 - 4:15 PM No. 20 Notre Dame (15-2) at Villanova (11-5) 7:00 pm EST

VILLANOVA, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Although Notre Dame has protected its home court this season, the road has been a different story.

The 20th-ranked Fighting Irish will receive a major test Wednesday when they visit Villanova in a Big East Conference contest.

Notre Dame (15-2, 3-1 Big East) is off to its best start in seven years but has ventured outside the friendly confines of South Bend only twice this season.

After winning at Maryland in early December, the Fighting Irish dropped a 66-48 decision at Georgetown on December 6.

The Fighting Irish hope to carry momentum from Saturday's 88-76 victory over Seton Hall. Russell Carter, who averages 18.0 points per game, paced Notre Dame with 24 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Villanova (11-5, 1-3) has dropped three of its last four contests, including a 75-64 loss at Syracuse on Saturday.

Curtis Sumpter scored 24 points Saturday for the Wildcats, who play just their sixth home game of the season Wednesday.

Villanova, which advanced to NCAA Regional Finals last March, has won 10 of its past 12 meetings with the Fighting Irish.
