Duke looks for second straight conference win vs. Wake Forest

Jan 18, 2007 - 4:40 PM Wake Forest (9-7) at No. 17 Duke (14-3) 7:00 pm EST

DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Duke is not used to looking up at other teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

After snapping a two-game conference skid, the 17th-ranked Blue Devils look to beat Wake Forest for the 10th straight time at home on Thursday.

With an 85-63 win at Miami on Sunday, Duke avoided losing its first three ACC games for the first time since the 1995-96 season. Freshman point guard Jon Scheyer scored a season-high 25 points in the win.

The Blue Devils (14-3, 1-2 ACC) opened their conference season with an overtime loss to Virginia Tech and a setback against Georgia Tech in a five-day span before routing the Hurricanes to get back on track.

Regularly starting three freshmen, the inexperienced Demon Deacons also have struggled, hoping to avoid their third straight loss.

In their last contest, they dropped an 88-74 decision to North Carolina State on Sunday. Sophomore Kevin Swinton scored 16 points in the loss. The Wolfpack shot nearly 61 percent in the game, which was the fourth time this season an opponent has shot 56 percent or better against Wake Forest (9-7, 1-3).

The Demon Deacons lost all three matchups with Duke last season, including a 78-66 defeat in the ACC tournament.
