Gottfried turns 42 as No. 9 Alabama meets Georgia

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama (Ticker) - A return to familiar surroundings could lead to a terrific birthday present for Alabama coach Mark Gottfried.

The Crimson Tide can extend their home-court winning streak to 17 straight games Saturday when they face Georgia in a Southeastern Conference matchup.

Gottfried, who turns 42, is 175-99 in his ninth season at Alabama. He has led the Crimson Tide to five NCAA Tournament appearances and is 117-18 at home.

Alabama slipped to 1-2 in SEC play with Wednesday's 94-73 loss to Vanderbilt. Mykal Riley scored 21 points, Jermareo Davidson added 18 and Richard Hendrix 14 with 10 rebounds for the Crimson Tide, who shot just 36 percent (26-of-72) from the floor.

The Bulldogs are 3-1 in conference action and have won their last three after dropping four in a row. The are averaging 80.8 points and have lost three of five on the road this season.

Georgia is coming off Wednesday's 67-64 triumph over Arkansas and is riding its first three-game SEC winning streak in three seasons. Steve Newman nailed a 3-pointer as time expired and Mike Mercer scored 15 points for the Bulldogs.

Alabama has taken four of the last six matchups against Georgia and will be looking to avenge last season's 88-79 loss to the Bulldogs.
