Douglas-Roberts to sit out when No. 18 Memphis meets East Carolina

Jan 20, 2007 - 4:21 PM No. 18 Memphis (14-3) at East Carolina (5-11) 6:00 pm EST

GREENVILLE, North Carolina (Ticker) - In order to keep its perfect record against East Carolina alive, Memphis will have to overcome the loss of its top scorer.

Chris Douglas-Roberts will be on the sidelines with a sprained right ankle when the 18th-ranked Tigers go for their seventh straight win Saturday against East Carolina in a Conference USA game.

Averaging 14.8 points, Douglas-Roberts suffered the high ankle sprain against Houston on January 11. The sophomore guard scored 23 points in his next game against Southern Mississippi but managed to play just two minutes against Alabama-Birmingham on Wednesday.

The Tigers raised their conference record to 4-0 with a 79-54 triumph over UAB. Robert Dozier scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Jeremy Hunt added 14 and Willie Kemp 12.

Memphis is the top-scoring team in C-USA (81.6) and has won its last six games by an average of 24.2 points. The Tigers are looking to defeat East Carolina for the fifth time in as many meetings.

Off to an 0-3 start in conference play, the Pirates have averaged 50.6 points during their three-game losing streak and have dropped 10 of 11 overall.

East Carolina is coming off Wednesday's 65-56 loss to Tulane. John Fields scored 17 points and Darrell Jenkins and Brandon Evans added 10 apiece for the Pirates.
