Hill's seven dunks lead Arkansas to win over LSU
Jan 20, 2007 - 11:04 PM FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (Ticker) -- No. 19 LSU spent all afternoon looking up at Steven Hill.Hill converted seven dunks en route to a career-high 16 points as Arkansas knocked off the Tigers, 72-52, in a Southeastern Conference contest.
While Hill ruled the paint, Sonny Weems and Patrick Beverley combined for seven 3-pointers for the Razorbacks (13-6, 2-3 SEC West), who bounced back after having their 16-game home winning streak snapped Wednesday in a 67-64 loss to Georgia.
Hill, a 7-0 bearded junior who wears a pony tail and is a fan favorite, shot 8-of-10 from the field and added six rebounds. He had three jams over a three-minute span midway through the second half - two on alley-oop feeds and another on a follow of a missed shot.
Hill has made 20-of-22 shots in his last four games and was coming off a 15-point performance against Georgia. He entered this game averaging 5.9 points in 21 minutes.
Weems, who entered 0-for-10 from the arc in conference play and 17-for-53 overall, made 4-of-7 3-pointers, including one with 14:30 left that stopped a 6-0 run by LSU (13-5, 2-2 West) and another with 5:15 left that pushed the edge to 64-49. He finished with 13 points.
Beverley, who entered 10-of-20 from the arc in conference play, converted 3-of-7 for all nine of his points.
The Razorbacks' zone defense did an outstanding job on the Tigers' top two scorers, Glen Davis and Tasmin Mitchell. Davis led LSU with 16 points but shot just 6-of-16 from the floor. Mitchell scored six points on 3-of-11 shooting as LSU shot just 35 percent (21-of-60). Both players entered averaging 18.7 points.
