Streaking Indiana aims to continue stellar play vs. Illinois

Jan 23, 2007 - 4:58 PM No. 24 Indiana (14-4) at Illinois (14-7) 7:00 pm EST

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois (Ticker) -- D.J. White and Indiana are becoming one of the most dangerous teams in the nation.

Riding a season-high five-game winning streak, the 24th-ranked Hoosiers look to continue their stellar play Tuesday when they visit Illinois in a Big Ten clash.

One of the most storied programs in college basketball, Indiana is looking to restore its spot amongst the nation's elite. The Hoosiers have gone 9-1 in their last 10 contests with their only loss coming against then-No. 6 Ohio State on January 2.

Indiana's leader in scoring (14.3) and rebounding (7.3), White has elevated his game as the Hoosiers continue to reel off wins. Indiana held on for a 77-73 victory over Connecticut in a non-conference matchup Saturday. White scored 21 points for the Hoosiers (14-4, 4-1 Big Ten).

White's performance against the Huskies came on the heels of a 23-point, 12-rebound performance in last Tuesday's win over Iowa. The junior forward's recent play earned him Big Ten Player of the Week honors.

However, White is not doing it alone. Indiana is receiving outstanding play from senior guard Eric Wilmont, who is averaging 11.7 points and 9.2 rebounds. He netted 23 points against Connecticut on Saturday.

After opening the season 12-2, the Fighting Illini (14-7, 2-4) have dropped five of their last seven contests, including a 71-64 loss to second-ranked Wisconsin on Saturday.

Shaun Pruitt scored a career-high 19 points for Illinois, which is 0-4 against ranked opponents this season. The Illini are 45-30 at home against Indiana all-time.
