Notre Dame faces St. John's, looks for rare road win

Jan 23, 2007 - 5:10 PM No. 21 Notre Dame (16-3) at St. John's (11-7) 7:30 pm EST

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Every time it packs its bags, Notre Dame leaves a little something in South Bend.

The 21st-ranked Fighting Irish look to reverse their road woes when they visit St. John's on Tuesday in a Big East Conference contest.

Holding a perfect 14-0 record at the Joyce Center, Notre Dame (16-3, 4-2 Big East) has hit on all cylinders on its home floor. However, on the road, the Fighting Irish are 2-3 and have been outscored by an average of 16.5 points.

Notre Dame might feel more comfortable shooting in its home arena. While they nail 50 percent of their shots at the Joyce Center, the Fighting Irish are shooting just 37 percent in their five road contests.

After losing at Villanova on Wednesday, Notre Dame stayed true to form, routing South Florida at home, 82-58, on Sunday.

The Red Storm are coming off one of the best wins of the season. After beating Depaul in its conference opener, St. John's had lost four straight Big East games, but rebounded to defeat Syracuse, 64-60, on Sunday.

Anthony Mason, Jr. collected 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Storm.

The teams did not play last year, but Notre Dame has won five of the last seven contests between the schools.
