James, Marquette aim for fifth straight win

Jan 24, 2007 - 2:44 PM Seton Hall (11-7) at No. 20 Marquette (17-4) 8:00 pm EST

MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Dominic James and Marquette proved they can beat Pittsburgh. Now they just have to keep pace with the Big East Conference's top squad.

James and the 20th-ranked Golden Eagles look for their fifth straight win Wednesday when they host Seton Hall in Big East play.

One of the top point guards in the country, James was the hero in Marquette's thrilling 77-74 overtime upset at then sixth-ranked Pittsburgh on Sunday. The sophomore scored 23 points and drilled a pair of go-ahead free throws with one second remaining in the extra session.

With the win, the Golden Eagles (17-4, 4-2 Big East) climbed within one game of the first-place Panthers (17-3, 5-1).

Marquette's leading scorer, James has been averaging 20.7 points over his last three games. He aims to help the Golden Eagles extend their four-game winning streak against a Seton Hall (11-7, 3-3) squad which hopes to bounce back from Friday's 74-58 loss to Georgetown.

Brian Laing scored 19 points to pace the Pirates, who have alternated wins and losses over their last 11 games.

Marquette won the only meeting between the schools last season, a 67-63 triumph in East Rutherford.
